Two decades in business, first as Start IT Consulting and now Business Addition, affords a consultancy like ours an in-depth understanding of what makes a good business great.
We started out with a passion for providing general and rescue bookkeeping services following the introduction of GST in 2000. Our aim was to take the load off busy business owners and maintain their business books.
Our handling of their data and the onerous and ongoing daily responsibilities of running a business gave our clients back the time and energy to focus on the aspects of their business that inspired them and the space to strive for excellence.
It also meant they had a true and accurate picture of where their business was at and where it was heading financially. This kind of insight gives a business owner the confidence to either push forward or the knowledge to make necessary changes to ensure long-term success.

Leading the Business Addition team is Registered Bas Agent Heather Sanders.
Heather completed a Degree in Business Management in the UK, before settling here in Cairns, Australia in 1988.
Heather was a driving force behind Start IT Consulting since its inception in 2000, assuming sole ownership in 2013. She holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessing and a Certificate IV in Financial Services (Accounting), has been a Reckon Account Accredited Professional Partner since 2003. She is also Xero Certified. Heather is your first contact with Business Addition, ensuring a smooth transition with a skillful analysis of your individual requirements. She specializes in creating customized reports and addresses the pain points of your record keeping with simple solutions that are easy to understand.
Heather’s unwavering focus and determination sees her study your business processes, streamlining and questioning as she goes until the optimum financial results are achieved.
Registered BAS Agent
Specialising in client liaison, Ros has been with the Business Addition team since January 2018. A Registered BAS Agent, Ros is a member of the Australian Bookkeepers Network, holds a Certificate IV in Finance (Bookkeeping) and is also a Xero Certified Advisor.
Working as a Bookkeeper since 2014, Ros is constantly developing her skills and her qualifications. Currently completing a Bachelor of Accounting through CQU, Ros in on track to become a qualified Accountant by midway through 2021.
Laren Van Rees
Registered BAS Agent
With a focus on Workcover Assessment, Laren is a long-term member of the Business Addition Team. Starting with the business (formerly Start IT Consulting) in 2007, Laren has been an integral presence in the evolution of Business Addition and has worked closely with many clients to secure their business vision. Laren holds a Diploma of Business and Graduate Certificate in Rehabilitation Case Management and a Certificate IV and Diploma in Bookkeeping and Accounting.
Importantly, Laren has herself been a small and medium business owner and worked in both the Government and Private Sectors, giving her an in-depth understanding of client needs, in addition to a broad skill set.
Registered BAS Agent
In addition to her work as a Registered BAS Agent, Leonie-Jane is a specialist in Administration Support. With a focus on Business Support and Bookkeeping, Leonie-Jane has some 30 years’ experience in a broad cross section of roles, including Project and Contract Administration, Office Management, Executive Assistance, Board Liaison, Procurement and Bookkeeping.
Leonie-Jane holds a Certificate IV in Accounting, a Certificate IV in Bookkeeping, and a Certificate III in Micro Business Operations, as well as a Certificate IV in Communication (Counselling), Certificate III in Travel & Tourism and Certificate III in Business Administration. Her background has seen her work as a trusted and valued employee for major employment agencies in Cairns, contracted to a variety of State, Local and Federal Government and Private Businesses.
